VIU MANENT is a Third Generation, Family-Owned, Chilean Winery.
The winery has been Nominated for the 2010 CHILEAN PRODUCER of the YEAR.
The winery was founded in 1935. Local wines were sold under the "VINOS VIU" Brand.
In 1966, MIGUEL VIU MANENT, acquired over 300 acres of land and the rest is history. New vines were planted, as well as a Winery and Manor House were built.
Thanks to JOSE MIGUEL VIU's generosity, and PATRICIA CLOUGH of MILLISSIME PR, I was invited to a Portfolio tasting and seminar of VIU MANENT Wines.
The event took place at PURO CHILE, a space near Chinatown ,in New York, that solely promotes Wines From Chile.
The evening began with a Question and Answer period, following a tasting of MALBEC and CARMENERE Wines from Colchagua Valley.
New WINEMAKER, Patricio Celedon, led the seminar, which highlighted eight wines from VIU MANENT Portfolio. At the seminar, Patricio led us through a VERTICAL Tasting consisting of MALBEC SINGLE VINEYARD Wines from the SAN CARLOS ESTATE. The wines were all from small production yields, complex in flavor, showing elegant, ripe fruit and aged 14-18 months in oak barrels. The Vintages that we sampled were: 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2007.
Our second Exceptional flight consited of CARMENERE wines, including an EL INCIDENTE CARMENERE 2007; SECRETO CARMENERE 2009 and a RESERVA CARMENERE 2009. All of the wines were intense with fresh, young fruit and alcohol up to 15%.
VIU MANENT wines are distributed throughout America.
