LEGENDARY Family-Owned Tuscan Wine Company, MARCHESI de FRESCOBALDI launched its FIRST Wine in the U.S. Market bearing the FRESCOBALDI Family Name, "Tenuta FRESCOBALDI di Castiglioni" on the bottle.
After "30 GENERATIONS" of making DYNAMIC Wines, the FRESCOBALDI Family recognized after 700 years that it was time to add their name to the label.
President of Frescobaldi, LEONARDO FRESCOBALDI commented, "We found it was appropriate to add the FRESCOBALDI name to this exclusive wine because it comes from the oldest estate where my family began to cultivate vineyards and produce wines over 700 years ago. Since that time, the family passion has flourished and continued to the present 30th generation".
For 700 years the FRESCOBALDI family has not taken their eyes off of the vine.
Granted, the Frescobaldi family were financiers to the KING of England during the Renaissance and HENRY VIII poured the wines of the Frescobaldi's during his Wedding banquets, no higher honor was given to the family than when MAXIMILLIAN recommended Frescobaldi's wines to the Pope.
Frescobaldi wines represent Tradition and Innovation. The goal of the company is to use the land to produce the highest quality wines in Tuscany and to sell the wines at reasonable prices.
Today, the company is thriving. Much is due to soil of the CASTIGLIONI estate, located southwest of Florence. The gentle hills offer a mixture of sand, clay and limestone. The land and the perfect exposure mold the terroir, characterized by great intensity of fruit, followed by a rich, elegant, stylish, long finish.
2009 Tenuta FRESCOBALDI di Castiglioni is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Sangiovese. The 320 acres estate, located at 800 feet altitude produces a Special wine with a unique blend. Sangiovese, I believe, is the special grape that makes this wine, from 12 year old vines, one of the best values in it's price range.
At under $25 a bottle, it is a MUST BUY for those who love "Old World Charm" in Barrique, made with "New World Technology".
The 2009 Tenuta FRESCOBALDI di Castiglioni is well distributed in America and easy to find at your local wine shop or restaurant.
After 700 years, the FRESCOBALDI Family still knows how to make wine!
