I was accidentally introduced to the wines of 90+ Cellars while picking up bubbly for a Gala event that I was the wine Auctioneer. It was Saturday and the weekly tasting was taking place at NEJAIMES wine shop in Lenox, Mass. It wasn't the usual tasting. All of the bottles had 90+ Cellars label on them, but, they were from all over the world. I wasn't sure what was happening. Wines from Spain, California and France--all with the same label, but with different Lot numbers. I was dumbfounded!
Curious, as usual,I immediately spoke to the rep pouring the wine and asked for an explanation. The rep, JARROD DiFRANCO, of LATITUDE BEVERAGE was quick to explain.
Jarrod explained the company's PHILOSOPHY that 90+ Cellars takes advantage of the current economic conditions by purchasing HIGH QUALITY and HIGHLY RATED finished wines direct from wineries and then passing the SAVINGS to the customer. The wines they purchase must have a PEDIGREE of 90 or higher ratings, Best Buy or Gold Medal accolades from a respected wine authority or publication. 90+ Cellars buys the best wines available that normally would sell under the wineries label. Wineries are willing to work with 90+ Cellars because they either produced more than they need or sales have slowed. In return, they are promised complete anonymity.
The wines from 90+ Cellars are GREAT VALUES because they are a VIRTUAL WINERY. The bottles are filled and labeled for 90+ Cellars at the winery and are assigned a "LOT" number. A "LOT" is defined as a particular wine from a winery.
Recent "LOTS" include:
LOT 2 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, New Zealand
LOT 4 Shiraz, Viognier McLaren Vale, Australia
LOT 16 Pinot Gregio Napa Valley, California
LOT 21 French Fusion Languedoc, france
LOT 23 Old Vine Malbac Mendoza, Argentina
LOT 25 Chianti Classico Italy
LOT 26 Barolo Piedmont, Italy
LOT 27 Barbara d'Alba Superiore Italy
LOT 28 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley, Oregon
LOT 33 Rose Languedoc, France
LOT 34 Wine Riot Red McLaren Vale, Australia
Studies show that customers are influenced by RATINGS when purchasing wine.
90+ Cellars purchases wines that have been rated by the following:
WS Wine Spectator: RP Robert Parker: WE Wine Enthusiast: ST Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar; W&S Wine & Spirits and others.
The HIGH QUALITY of the wines is evident in every bottle that I sampled (4 in all).
Retailing at $9.99 and above, the WINES are a MUST BUY!
The RESULT is simple: 90+ Rated wines at a fraction of their cost.
